No scare tactics here

It’s not in my nature to frighten people with horror stories.  I prefer to give you the guidance you need to mitigate risk sensibly and proportionately.

Colin, electrician and business-owner

So, let’s start with the basics – have you carried out a risk assessment?

By law you need to assess the risks when it comes to electrical safety.  If you have five or more employees then the law says you have to write that risk assessment down.  I can help you do that.

An EICR may be required by the terms of your insurance

Why not email your insurance broker now and ask them?  If the terms of your insurance require an in-date Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) then I can help.

I might be able to give you a quote over the phone. I might come and do it out-of-hours if that would help. Let’s not make things harder than they need to be.

You are obliged by law to maintain the electrics in your business safely

You could be found to have committed a criminal offence if somebody is injured because you haven’t maintained your electrical installation or any appliances safely. You could get a hefty fine or go to prison.

You’re probably thinking “well that’s very unlikely to happen to me“, and you’re probably right. As a business-owner, you’re perfectly capable of deciding how best to mitigate the risk of getting into trouble, and what it’s worth to you.

Many business-owners choose to cover themselves by employing a professional like me to test the fixed electrics (an EICR) and any appliances (‘PAT’ testing).  Not only will that help you identify potential risks, but it also means you’re passing the burden of electrical safety onto me (and my insurance).

Please get in touch and I’ll let you know what this will cost your business. Then you can make a pragmatic decision one way or the other, and crack on with running your business.

Oh, and there’s no harm in making sure your staff and customers are safe

(Just saying 😊)
